During that time of rehab and unemployment, I resided in the comfort of my VW Bug. I lived off my savings, ate canned goods, and showered at the pool after two workouts a day. Living in my VW Bug for eleven weeks and two days was an experience that will shape my life forever. It taught me the importance of resilience, humility, diligence, and the power of optimism. I know now that life gives us many obstacles we do not expect or want, but it is not what is dealt to us that is important. It is how we deal with what we are given. I learned how to handle many obstacles at the same time and perform all to the best of my ability. I found I can handle and even appreciate adversity at different times, and sometimes at the same time, while maintaining the tenacity and vision to accomplish daily responsibilities and pursue future goals.

Hi, my name is Stacey Burrell and I currently attending Boston Arts Academy as a Junior theatre major. I believe it's never too early to start looking at colleges and scholarships. My schools of interest include Juilliard, Colombia, and Dartmouth. I am not the first in my family to go to college but I am apart of the first generation. My parents are from Jamaica and never fully completed their education. I've always had to make the most of financial aid and luck. My parents are definitely not rich but we've always found ways to pay for what we need. My sister just enrolled at Cornell University almost entirely through financial aid and merit based scholarships.

I have always been very involved with sports in my childhood, I am very active in my youth group at church and I am very active in my high school. Growing up, I have always had plans and goals to meet. I have always strived to meet theses goals and to accomplish the plans that I have come up with. Since I was a little kid, I knew that I always wanted to be a nurse like my mother. However, recently I have realized that I really want to impact the lives of children. I want to become a teacher. I love working with children and children have always had a special place in my heart. I have been in a peer assistant leadership program at my high school for the past two years. It has helped me realized that I want to be an early education teacher. Working with the younger children makes me so happy.

This past year, I have gotten the chance to work with a class of students at our primary school that have disabilities with their motor skills and with some who have mental disabilities as well. Everyone who desires to go to college one day will eventually be facing the number one question that may or may not make the decision for them; do I have enough money to go? It seems to be the reason a lot of people finish high school and decide to just start working. Some kids, fill out the necessary paperwork, only to find out their parents make too much money and end up not going as well. Then there are the kids who decide to take out loans. Sure it seems easy at first, so they get another loan, they get another degree, only to find out that after college, the work force is smaller than they thought and now the debt is hanging over their heads. For some college students working to pay off their debts seems more important than getting the actual college degree.

It is important to society that we try to fix this problem. The students applying for college need to be better educated on loans and have a better idea on the job market today, and what degree it will take to get them where they need to be so that they are employable. The only way out is working in multiple jobs, and with that they will lose a lot of time, putting out their social life, put off having a kid, car purchases because they cannot afford to pay car payments and any more loans, put off buying a house or even getting better opportunities in business. The money that they make go straight to the government, so how are they supposed to have a better life conditions like this?

Those loans are not allowing people to live the normal lives that they should be living but are rather burdening themselves with debt.

The study design and approach seems flawed from the beginning, given its emphasis on using the physical location of the library, which the authors admit is relatively outdated, given the number of students who access the library virtually, either at workstations or remotely, versus the relative paucity that use its physical resources.

Even giving undue emphasis to the use of workstations as proof of student engagement with the library seems questionable and unwise, since less affluent students will invariably have a greater need to use the physical location of…. Demographic and student library use were logged over the course of a semester at a single Australian university. The findings raised some questions about the initial hypothesis -- of all students, both those whom remained at university and did not, very few actually took out a physical book from the library. There was a higher rate of student library usage by retained students, but that may partially have been due to the fact that once students dropped out, they no longer had access to or a need to use the library.

Even giving undue emphasis to the use of workstations as proof of student engagement with the library seems questionable and unwise, since less affluent students will invariably have a greater need to use the physical location of the library if they lack ready computer access. The most committed of the least affluent students, logic would dictate, would use the workstations; more affluent students would use home computers and less committed students would eschew the library entirely. Instead of determining the correlation between retention and library usage, a more interesting question would be the correlation between effective library use and retention, an area which students from high SES backgrounds might have an advantage and explain their higher retention rates.

The incoming class could have been given and Internet-administered quiz asking them such questions as how to use the online library catalogue; how to access an academic database; and their relative comfort level in conducting academic research. This would have allowed researchers to compare demographic characteristics with responses.
